Twitter Reflection

As I use other social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram for communication with friends and family, I rarely access my Twitter account. My academic assessments have provided me with an opportunity to create and set up a popular microblogging site, Twitter. I think Twitter is a great social network to exchange short messages or tweets within a niche community network. I’ve started using Twitter for the past five months. I have noticed that Twitter has many users who support and provide a range of information about vegetarian and vegan diet - For example, sustainability, eating patterns, recipes and plant-based food products recipes (replacement of meat and dairy products).

Initially, I began to familiarise myself by following groups - One Green PlanetVegetarian Society and Vegetarian Times. I rarely use hashtags on my social media websites. But after this activity, I came to know about the advantages of hashtags. Tweets with hashtags are a great way to reach a user who has the same interest in the topic and enhances the visibility of our content. I‘ve tweeted hashtags such as #PlantbasedDiet,  #sustainablefood#PlantBasedMedicine, #cheapveggies  #muffins and #veganmuffins.  #PlantBasedDiet and #sustainablefood tend to be more relevant to my topic – vegetarian cooking. These hashtags helped me find tweets that have the recipes, health and sustainable benefits of a vegan or vegetarian diet.

As a part of this writing task, I’ve summarised the content of two blog articles on the web. I’ve found these articles valuable and wanted to share this content with vegetarian followers. Coleman’s (2019) article emphasised the advantages of a vegetarian diet for health as well as sustainability and animal welfare. Debret (2019) has published a brief description of medicine-based antibiotics and added 15 natural vegetarian recipes and plant-based foods that have antibiotic properties. Due to the character limit, I was able to summarise the articles in only a few characters.

I’ve tweeted, commented and retweeted on Twitter. It was a pleasure to receive likes and comments in return for my comments. I was inspired by The Muffinery (user) as the user published appetising images of muffins made from various vegetarian ingredients.

Although I received a few likes and comments, I am looking forward to inspiring others with appropriate content. I want to learn and use the other features of Twitter such as Send a message and Advanced Search.
